Victor Osimhen was born on December 29, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria. He began his football career at the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos. His talent was recognized early, particularly at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot and Silver Ball, contributing to Nigeria’s victory. This performance led to a pre-contract with VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, which he officially joined in January 2017. His initial seasons in Europe included a loan spell at Belgian club Charleroi in 2018–2019, where he scored 20 goals in 36 games, indicating a turning point in his professional career.
In 2019, Osimhen transferred to Lille OSC in Ligue 1, where he continued to demonstrate his goal-scoring ability, netting 18 goals across all competitions in his sole season with the club. His performance earned him the 2020 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, awarded to the best African player in the French championship. In 2020, he made a club-record move to Serie A side Napoli for an initial fee of €70 million. At Napoli, Osimhen became a central figure, winning the Serie A Best Young Player award in the 2021–22 season. The following season, he finished as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals, a record for an African player, and helped Napoli secure their first Serie A title in 33 years. He was named Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2023 and is currently the highest-scoring African player in Serie A history.
His career progression also includes significant international achievements with the Nigeria national team. He made his senior international debut in June 2017 and has represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and 2023, reaching the final in the latter. In May 2023, Osimhen was awarded the Member of the Federal Republic by the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. He also finished eighth in the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, becoming the first Nigerian to make the top ten. In 2024, he was loaned to Galatasaray, where he finished as the Süper Lig’s top scorer and won a domestic double, leading to a permanent transfer to the club in July 2025 for a record €75 million, making him the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history.
