United States Victoria Principal is an actress, producer, entrepreneur, and author, recognized for her extensive career in television and film, as well as her successful skincare brand.
Victoria Principal partnered with Guthy-Renker for 28 years to build her skincare brand, Principal Secret. In 2019, Guthy-Renker acquired the Principal Secret business as Principal stepped down to focus on philanthropy.
Principal has consistently supported Oceana, a marine conservation organization. She made substantial donations, including matching individual gifts up to $50,000, to protect U.S. coasts from offshore oil and gas.
Principal has contributed significantly to the NRDC, notably in stopping offshore drilling and funding an online campaign against sonic blasting along the California coastline to protect marine life. She also supported their 'Save the Bees' campaign.
Principal funded the creation of a mobile emergency fire warning system for the Los Angeles area in 2012, which was implemented in 2013. She further collaborated with Tree People on a mobile system for wildfire prevention.
Principal funded the Red Star Rescue Team to assist with animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts following natural disasters, such as the 2013 Moore, Oklahoma tornado and the 2015 Oklahoma and Texas tornadoes and floods. In 2018, she donated a fleet of rescue boats to aid in Hurricane Florence relief.
In 2014, Principal fully funded the return of military working dog Maxi from Japan to the U.S. to be reunited with its former Marine handler.
In 2016, Principal created the Moki fund to support Wags and Walks in rescuing animals and providing medical care, aiding their adoption into permanent homes.
Victoria Principal, born Vicki Ree Principal on January 3, 1950, in Fukuoka, Japan, is the elder daughter of a United States Air Force sergeant. Due to her father’s military career, her family frequently relocated, leading her to attend 17 different schools across various locations including London, Puerto Rico, Florida, Massachusetts, and Georgia. She began her career at age five by appearing in commercials and later pursued modeling in high school. While enrolled at Miami-Dade Community College with aspirations of studying chiropractic medicine, a severe car crash at 18 redirected her focus towards acting. She moved to New York City to work as a model and actress, further honing her craft at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before settling in Los Angeles in 1971.
Principal’s acting career commenced with her film debut as Maria Elena in “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” (1972), starring Paul Newman, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. After a period of disillusionment with her career, she transitioned into a talent agent for three years, from 1975 to 1977. A pivotal moment came when Aaron Spelling offered her a role in the pilot of “Fantasy Island” (1977). This led to her iconic role as Pamela Barnes Ewing on CBS’s long-running soap opera “Dallas” (1978), a part she held for nine years. Following her departure from “Dallas” in 1987, she established Victoria Principal Productions, focusing on producing television films.
Beyond her acting and producing endeavors, Principal became a successful entrepreneur and author. She released three best-selling books in the 1980s: “The Body Principal” (1983), “The Beauty Principal” (1984), and “The Diet Principal” (1987), followed by “Living Principal” (2001). In 1989, she launched Principal Secret, her eponymous skincare line, which generated over $1.5 billion in revenue by 2013. In 2019, she stepped away from Principal Secret to dedicate her time to philanthropic efforts through The Victoria Principal Foundation For Thoughtful Existence, focusing on environmental and animal welfare causes.
