Eliana Johnson

Eliana Johnson, born Eliana Yael Johnson around 1984 in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, began her career in journalism after graduating from Yale College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Her early professional experience included roles as a staff reporter for The New York Sun, where she focused on higher education, and as a research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations. She also gained production experience working at the Fox News Channel.

Johnson’s career progressed through significant positions within the political journalism landscape. She served two years at National Review, where she was promoted from media editor to Washington editor in August 2014, leading the organization’s 2016 election coverage. Following this, she became a White House correspondent at POLITICO in November 2016. In September 2019, Johnson was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Free Beacon, a role she maintains, succeeding Matthew Continetti.
