About

Born on May 10, 1959, in Portland, Maine, Victoria Lynn Rowell developed an early affinity for ballet and trained professionally with the American Ballet Theatre II and the Juilliard School’s Music Dance Extension program. Her career began in the 1980s as a runway and catalog model before transitioning into acting. She made her film debut in 1987 in “Leonard Part 6” and had a recurring role on “The Cosby Show.” In 1988, she also appeared in the CBS daytime soap opera “As the World Turns” as Nella Franklin. These early roles established her presence in the entertainment industry.

Rowell’s career advanced significantly in 1990 when she joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless” as Drucilla Barber Winters, a role for which she received three Daytime Emmy Award nominations and earned 11 NAACP Image Awards. She maintained this role from 1990 to 1998, returning periodically until 2007. Concurrently, from 1993 to 2001, she portrayed Dr. Amanda Bentley in the CBS primetime series “Diagnosis: Murder,” appearing in 163 episodes and two TV movies. Her film work includes co-starring with Eddie Murphy in “The Distinguished Gentleman” (1992), playing FBI Agent Beth Jordan in “Dumb and Dumber” (1994), and roles in “Barb Wire” (1996) and “Eve’s Bayou” (1997). Victoria Rowell continues to contribute to the industry as an actress, director, and writer, including creating and directing the series “The Rich and the Ruthless” (2017–2021) and directing several films for various networks.

Beyond her acting career, Rowell is a published author, with her New York Times bestseller, “The Women Who Raised Me,” published by HarperCollins Publishers. She also has a literary book deal with Simon & Schuster for her soap opera novel series. An advocate for foster children, Rowell founded the Rowell Foster Children’s Fine Arts Scholarship Fund and was recognized by 193 members of Congress for her advocacy efforts. She holds two honorary doctorates and continues to lecture internationally on topics related to education, arts, foster care, and diversity.
