Wayne Brady was born in Columbus, Georgia, on June 2, 1972, and spent his early years in Orlando, Florida. Initially considering a military career, a high school play performance at age 16 redirected his path towards entertainment. He actively participated in the Central Florida theater community, appearing in productions such as “A Chorus Line” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Brady honed his unique improvisational skills at SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando.
In 1996, Brady relocated to Los Angeles, California, to further his career in theater and television. His national television breakthrough occurred in 1998 with his regular appearances on the British improvisational comedy series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. His success on the British series led to a consistent role on the American version of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, which premiered the same year. This role earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program in 2003. Expanding his presence across various media, Brady hosted “The Wayne Brady Show” from 2001 to 2004, which secured multiple Daytime Emmy Awards, including two for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
Brady’s career diversified beyond improv and talk shows to include significant roles in musical theatre, playing Billy Flynn in Broadway’s “Chicago” in 2004, Lola/Simon in “Kinky Boots” from 2015 to 2016, and Aaron Burr in the Chicago production of “Hamilton” in 2017. Since 2009, he has hosted the revival of the game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” earning a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host in 2018. His adaptability is evident in roles like James Stinson on “How I Met Your Mother” and as a guest on “Chappelle’s Show.” Additionally, Brady engaged in music, receiving a Grammy nomination in 2009 for his rendition of “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
