William John Bulsiewicz, known as Dr. B, is an American board-certified gastroenterologist, author, and public speaker focused on the relationship between the gut microbiome, dietary fiber, and plant-based nutrition. He pursued his education at Vanderbilt University, graduating with a degree in chemistry in 2002. Although initially interested in pediatrics, Bulsiewicz switched his focus to gastroenterology, earning his degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2006. He furthered his academic credentials with a Master’s degree in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) from Northwestern University in 2010, and also obtained a certificate in plant-based nutrition from eCornell.
His career includes an internship and residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University from 2006 to 2009, followed by a role as chief medical resident in internal medicine from 2009 to 2010. From 2010 to 2014, he completed a Gastroenterology Fellowship at UNC Medical Center, where he also served as chief gastroenterology fellow. During this period, he received a grant from the National Institutes of Health for a one-year epidemiology fellowship at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Bulsiewicz has worked as a gastroenterologist in medical centers across South Carolina and currently serves as the U.S. Medical Director for Zoe.
Bulsiewicz advocates for a plant-predominant, fiber-rich diet, emphasizing its role in optimal gut health. He authored “Fiber Fueled” (2020), which became a New York Times bestseller, and “The Fiber Fueled Cookbook” (2022). His upcoming book, “Plant Powered Plus: Activate the Power of Your Gut to Tame Inflammation and Reclaim Your Health,” is scheduled for release in January 2026. He also offers various gut health courses to empower individuals with tools for improving their health through diet, lifestyle, and supplements.
