Clear’s early career involved working as a performance coach for athletes and executives. In 2012, he transitioned into writing and public speaking, focusing on self-improvement topics. He launched his website, JamesClear.com, which quickly gained readership for its articles on habits, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
Clear’s career-defining achievement came in 2018 with the publication of his book, “Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones.” Drawing on his exchanges with readers of his email list and his personal experience rehabilitating from a severe cranial injury, the book outlines a framework for building small, consistent habits that lead to significant cumulative effects. “Atomic Habits” became a #1 New York Times bestseller, selling over 25 million copies worldwide and being translated into more than 60 languages.
Beyond his literary success, Clear is a sought-after speaker, delivering keynote addresses to major companies and events. His work has been featured in prominent publications such as Time magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CBS This Morning, Forbes, and Entrepreneur. He also maintains a popular weekly 3-2-1 newsletter, which has over 3 million subscribers, and has developed the official “Atomic Habits” mobile app. In 2024, he was inducted into the Academic All-America Hall of Fame, recognizing his athletic and academic achievements.
