19 year old Sun Yingsha is a Chinese table tennis player, who won the 2019 Asian Championships on what was her debut appearance at a major event.
Despite her young age, Yingsha has been a key player in the doubles and team events for the last few years. In 2018, she took home the title at the Asian Games Table Tennis Championships in both the mixed doubles and the team competitions, and a year later took victory at the World Table Tennis Championships women’s doubles event. She continued this winning streak, taking home the title at the women’s team events at both the 2019 Table Tennis World Cup and the 2019 Asian Table Tennis Championships. However, Yingsha really secured her reputation as one of China’s best young athletes with her win in the singles competition at the 2019 Asian Championships. This was her first time playing as a singles competitor in a major event, and she beat some of the top ranked players in the world. Yingsha established herself as a contender to take the number one spot in years to come, as well as moving her one step closer to qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
This young player is energetic and has a strong attacking style of play, showing a confidence which is beyond her years. Yingsha is being hailed as one of the next big competitors in the table tennis world, and is already rising through the world rankings.
