Experienced American actor Zach McGowan is best known to viewers for a wide variety of roles, from playing Jody Silverman in the US version of Shameless to Roan in The 100 to Anton Ivanov in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Shkelgim in Dracula Untold. He has also contributed voices to characters in video games such as Resident Evil 6 and Iron Man. Among his most recent roles are parts in MacGyver and L.A.’s Finest.
McGowan was born in New York City in 1980. He was a keen actor throughout his school years, taking part in every play and production going. He eventually decided to pursue full-time acting in 2004, making his first screen appearance in a short film called The 14th Morning. Over the next few years, he built up his resume, often playing Eastern European characters, before getting his first break playing an American, Jody Silverman, in the second and third seasons of Shameless, Showtime’s adaptation of the hit British series). Shortly afterwards, he won the part of Shkelgim in Dracula Untold, a dark fantasy film that grossed over $217 million worldwide, introducing McGowan’s talents to mainstream cinemagoers for the first time.
In 2014, McGowan began appearing in another regular TV role, playing Charles Vane in Black Sails, a prequel to the classic novel, Treasure Island. The show was nominated for (and won) all kinds of Primetime Emmy Awards for its innovative use of audio and visual effects. In 2016, McGowan joined the cast of The 100, a popular post-apocalyptic drama that airs on The CW. The following year, he joined the cast of the hugely popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, establishing his credentials yet further.
