Zach Mcgowan

Zach McGowan was born in New York City on May 5, 1980. His early acting career began in school productions, which led him to perform in off-Broadway productions in New York City starting in 2003. In 2005, McGowan relocated to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in film and television. His initial film roles included appearances in productions such as “Terminator Salvation,” directed by McG, and “The Hunt For Eagle One,” directed by Brian Clyde. He also gained experience in short films, taking leading roles in “The 14th Morning” and “Sadiq,” which was an MTVU Student Film Maker Award Nominee.

McGowan’s television career began with guest appearances in shows like “Numb3rs” and “CSI: Miami.” A significant turn in his career occurred in 2011 when he joined the cast of the Showtime dramedy “Shameless” as Jody, initially as a guest star and later becoming a series regular for its third season. In 2013, he expanded into feature films with “Dracula Untold,” where he played Shkelgim. The following year, McGowan took on the role of Captain Charles Vane in the Starz dramatic adventure series “Black Sails,” a role for which he adopted an English accent. He also secured recurring and main roles in major television series including King Roan in “The 100” from 2016 to 2017 and Anton Ivanov / The Superior in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” from 2017 to 2018. His work also includes voice-over roles for video games like “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier” and various advertisements.

More recently, McGowan has continued his acting career with appearances in “L.A.’s Finest” (2019), playing Ray Sherman, and in “Project Blue Book” (2020) as Duncan Booker. He also featured in films such as “The Brawler” (2019), portraying Chuck Wepner, and “The Scorpion King: Book of Souls” (2018) as Mathayus. His forthcoming projects include roles in “The Boys” (2026), “The Wolf and the Lamb” (post-production), and “ROCADA” (pre-production), demonstrating continued activity in both film and television. McGowan is a member of SAG and AFTRA, reflecting his professional standing in the entertainment industry.
