Morgan Jay Rose was born on December 13, 1968, in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent his early childhood in New Jersey before his family returned to Atlanta. His father was a guitarist, and his mother’s interest in music exposed him to live performances, notably David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust tour. Rose attributes his early musical interest to his father, who taught him guitar. He attended high school in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he played in various garage bands. After high school, he enrolled in the Musicians’ Institute of Los Angeles but focused more on practical experience within the music scene rather than formal academic study.

Rose began his professional career in the early 1990s, playing in bands such as Fairchild and Stiff Kitty, and later in Snake Nation with Vinnie Hornsby. In late 1992, he, along with Hornsby, joined Lajon Witherspoon to form Rumblefish, which eventually became Sevendust due to legal naming issues. As the drummer for Sevendust, Rose contributes backing and unclean vocals and is known for his dynamic stage presence. He has been recognized as one of the top drummers in the industry, receiving accolades such as “Hottest Drummer” by Australia’s Rolling Stone in 2003 and “number one metal drummer” by Modern Drummer magazine in 2004. Rose also holds the position of Vice President at Imagen Records.

Beyond his work with Sevendust, Rose has engaged in various musical projects and collaborations. He has performed with Methods of Mayhem and Call Me No One, and as a fill-in drummer for high-profile bands like Korn and Mötley Crüe. In 2012, he debuted as a solo artist with the EP “Controlled Chaos,” co-written with Sevendust bandmate Clint Lowery. Rose is also the founder of Alien Freak Wear, a clothing and drumstick brand, integrating his personal style and professional identity. He has also served as a producer for several artists, contributing to albums like Neverset’s “Outta Control” EP and Candlelight Red’s “Demons” EP.
