The American funk and disco icon is curating the 26th edition of Meltdown Festival, and he’s chosen MN2S event “A Night of Studio 54” to appear on the line-up.
Known worldwide as Manhattan’s glorious melting pot of hedonism, glamour and debauchery, Studio 54 was quite possibly the most famous (or infamous) nightclub in history. Capturing the original night’s notorious blend of unbridled indulgence and feel-good atmosphere, this electrifying event will recreate music’s golden age, transporting dancers back to the centre of 70’s disco nightlife. Once welcoming high-profile clientele like Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, and Elton John, Studio 54 has achieved near-mythical status as a glittering utopia for those who love to let loose and party down.
Musical polymath and disco pioneer Nile Rodgers has chosen the MN2S Branded Event “A Night of Studio 54”, featuring original DJs Jellybean Benitez and Nicky Siano, to appear at the latest edition of Meltdown festival, an annual event that invites famous names to curate hand-picked line-ups for one-off events that bring together some of music’s most legendary names. Taking place at the Southbank Centre, the event will also see Songhoy Blues, KOKOROKO, Anitta, SOPHIE and Rodger’s own CHIC perform.
In a previously untested conception of the event, Studio 54 will take over the Southbank Centre’s lobby and communal space, creating an immersive experience that’s set to be one of the year’s most unforgettable events. Tickets for Studio 54 at Meltdown have already sold out within weeks of their release.
“My prime motivation is to present incredible music from all walks of life that will make everybody dance. From CHIC to KOKOROKO and our special Studio 54 night to Eurythmics Songbook, Songhoy Blues, Despacio and the full incredible lineup, we are going to dance, dance, dance.”Nile Rodgers
