MN2S is thrilled to welcome Grammy nominated house music pioneer Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley to the booking agency DJ roster.
As a crucial part of the early Chicago house scene, Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley had four singles reach the US Dance Top 10 between 1985 and 1988. He rose to prominence as a DJ on the influential Chicago house station WBMX. His style was notable for including complex turntablist techniques normally deployed by hip hop DJs, such as scratching, beat juggling and back spinning.
Silk’s biggest hit from his early career was ‘Jack Your Body.’ The track features Chicago house’s trademark blend of drum machines, synth bass and vocal samples, coming together to create a punchy, danceable beat. ‘Jack Your Body’ was the first house song to top the UK charts, reaching this high point through club exposure alone.
Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley has also had great success as a remixer. He was nominated twice for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical and twice for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the Grammys. He has remixed the work of legendary artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and Diana Ross.
As the co-owner of S&S Records (with Shannon ‘Skip’ Syas), Silk has overseen the release of great music from the likes of CeCe Peniston, DJ Skip, Jameisha Trice and Ann Nesby.
Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley draws on decades of DJing experience for his live sets, combining old school Chicago house sounds with unrivalled mixing technique.
