Artist Spotlight: Roberto Pedoto's Creative Process | MN2S

Keeping the Spirit of 90s House Alive Deep house, soul, groove, and creative freedom

There’s something timeless about the music of Roberto Pedoto. Rooted in the emotional depth of classic house music but shaped through a modern production lens, Roberto’s sound blends funk, soul, jazz, and deep house into records that feel nostalgic while still sounding fresh for today’s dancefloors.

Now working with MN2S Label Services, Roberto describes the experience as “seamless so far,” adding that whenever issues arise, there are always “people ready to resolve them with human support.” For an artist who values independence above all else, that balance of support and freedom is essential.

His career as an independent artist has allowed him to manage every part of his creative identity, from production and visual image to distribution, without dealing with the pressures and complications that can often come with traditional label structures.

Growing up during the golden era of house music

For Roberto, the influence of the 1990s goes far beyond music. As he explains, “the ‘90s have shaped my life in general.” Growing up during that era introduced him to club culture early on, and by 1998 he was already DJing, buying vinyl records, and playing in small bars and clubs around his hometown.

Those experiences continue to shape the sound he creates today. Roberto describes his music as a combination of “funk, soul, and jazz elements over a deep house beat” inspired by the golden era of US house music, while still maintaining what he calls “a modern approach.”

That connection between past and present has become one of the defining characteristics of his productions.

From DJ to producer

Although DJing was Roberto’s first passion, music production eventually became a natural extension of his creativity. Coming from a small town with limited opportunities to perform, he began looking for other ways to express himself musically.

After years of listening to underground producers and collecting records throughout the early 2000s, Roberto realised he had “a creative side that still needed to be refined.” Inspired by the artists he admired, he started experimenting with making his own tracks, dreaming of creating records similar to the ones that had shaped his musical taste for years.

Emotion and groove in equal measure

One reason Roberto’s music resonates so strongly with listeners is the balance between emotion and rhythm. His tracks often feel atmospheric and soulful while still carrying the energy needed for the dancefloor.

That balance, he says, comes directly from his DJ background. He never wanted to create music that focused only on emotion, believing groove was equally important. The result is a sound that feels personal and expressive without ever losing its movement.

His productivity as an artist also comes from a deep personal discipline. Roberto describes making music as “my mantra, like exercising,” explaining that he wakes up early most mornings motivated to create. His ever-growing catalog is simply the result of a genuine passion for making music consistently.

Balancing nostalgia with modern production

While Roberto’s work clearly draws inspiration from old-school house music, he’s equally focused on experimentation and evolution. He spends time listening to both classic and contemporary records, searching for ways to merge old emotions with new sounds.

Sampling plays a major role in his process, and he openly acknowledges that much of his music is sample-driven. However, he believes creativity lies in how those samples are selected, transformed, and reimagined. Sometimes, as he explains, choosing one sample over another and flipping it differently “can make all the difference.”

At the center of everything is creative freedom. Roberto says freedom is “everything” to him as an artist, admitting that pressure and creative constraints simply “aren’t for me.”

Can house music still be timeless?

When asked what makes a timeless house record, Roberto admits it’s much harder to answer in today’s era of fast music consumption. He believes older records often became timeless because artists had more limitations, forcing them to create music with genuine heart and soul rather than chasing trends or algorithms.

That authenticity remains something he continues to pursue in his own productions.

Looking ahead

As for the future, Roberto remains focused on growing his audience while continuing to evolve creatively. He’s constantly exploring new strategies to connect with listeners and expand the reach of his music, which he describes as one of the biggest challenges independent artists face today.

Still, his goal remains simple: to keep moving people emotionally while making them dance for many years to come.

For emerging producers hoping to build long-term careers, Roberto believes one of the most valuable things they can do is immerse themselves fully in music culture. Listening widely and gaining DJ experience, he says, can help artists develop a genuine identity and avoid simply following trends.
