Model

Entering the world of modelling at the tender age of just 15, Jodie was talent spotted whilst holidaying in Barbados by celebrity photographer Terry O’Neil. Although she never suffered from an eating disorder herself, she became the face of a furore around the use of very slim models, which some critics argued promoted eating disorders.

Nevertheless, Kidd’s modelling career was stellar, and remains what she is most famous for. She opened shows for John Galliano and Chanel and was the face of perfumes for Yves Saint Laurent and Chloe. Although she had a long break from modelling, in 2013 she returned to shoot a campaign for Jaeger. She said: “I saw a big resurgence of my friends – Erin, Karen Elson, Guinevere Van Seenus – in magazines. There seemed to be this huge revival, with the public falling in love with them again, and they all look so bloody amazing!

“It was so refreshing, as a consumer, to be looking at a beautiful woman for once, rather than a teenager. When I was modelling, I was a skinny little 16-year-old girl, supposedly selling clothes to 40-year-old women. I love seeing these women – not girls – modelling fashion.”

Motor racing

After her first stint as a model Jodie swapped high heels for sensible shoes and decided to embrace one of her great loves in life – cars. At one time she boasted of a garage full of Ferraris, and the unpredictable Jodie began racing for Maserati, as well as competing in the famous American Gumball 3000 rally.

She’s taken a step back from the sport following a big crash at Silverstone, which she said slowed her down. “When you’re racing cars you’re constantly at the edge, pushing the limits. And you have to push the envelope the whole time.” Jodie said. “After I went beyond the envelope and had a big crash, subconsciously my brain was lifting off the accelerator, and I was braking too quickly. It would have taken a long time and a lot of dedication to get back to how I was.”

Pub landlady

After dabbling in the world of polo, following her retirement from racing, Jodie has recently added another string to her bow, purchasing her local pub, the Half Moon in Kirdford. The former model celebrated getting her alcohol license in July of this year, and the pub is now open for business. It’s a quaint traditional English country pub serving up food inspired by Kidd’s travels – quite a departure from racing and modelling!
