Aquilo, comprised of Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher, originated from Silverdale, Lancashire. The duo gained initial recognition in 2013 with their singles “Calling Me” and “You There.” Their debut EP, “Aquilo,” was released on March 3, 2014, followed by “Human” in December 2014. “You There” was featured on BBC Radio 1’s playlist and in the trailer for the 2014 film “Camp X-Ray,” establishing their sound in media.
Throughout their career, Aquilo has released several EPs, including “Calling Me” (June 2015) and “Painting Pictures Of A War” (December 2015). They have also engaged in notable collaborations; in 2015, they worked with DJ Vanic on “Losing You” and with French DJ Madeon on “Innocence” for his album “Adventure.” Their music has consistently been placed in television series such as “Pretty Little Liars” (2015), “Scream: The TV Series” (2015, 2016), “Catfish: The TV Show” (2016, 2017), “The Five” (2016), “Rosewood” (2017), “Being Mary Jane” (2017), “Love Island” (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021), “Grey’s Anatomy” (2017, 2018, 2021, 2023), “Elementary” (2018), “Famous in Love” (2018), “Suits” (2019), “The Village” (2019), “Virgin River” (2019, 2022, 2023), and “Maid” (2021), demonstrating broad appeal and versatility in sync licensing.
Aquilo’s debut studio album, “Silhouettes,” was released on January 27, 2017. This was followed by their second album, “ii,” on May 4, 2018, and their third album, “A Safe Place To Be,” on October 15, 2021. Their discography has expanded with recent singles like “Painkiller” (2024) and upcoming albums “A Quiet Invitation To a Hard Conversation” (August 2024) and “You Should Get Some Sleep” (December 2024), continuing their pattern of consistent musical output and evolution.
