Empress Of, also known as Lorely Rodriguez, is a Honduran-American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer known for her emotionally and musically intricate electronic music. After gaining initial recognition in 2012 by anonymously releasing a series of one-minute demos on YouTube titled ‘Colorminutes,’ singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer Lorely Rodriguez, known professionally as Empress Of, went on to establish a distinctive presence in electronic music. A graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music with a sound engineering degree in 2011, Empress Of launched her solo career following her move to New York City. Her first official release, the 7-inch single ‘Champagne,’ arrived in November 2012 via No Recordings, followed by the bilingual four-track EP, Systems, in April 2013 through Double Denim and Terrible Records.
This early success led to her signing with XL Recordings in 2013. Empress Of further solidified her career with extensive touring and performances at major music festivals including SXSW, Iceland Airwaves, and Pitchfork’s Summer Music Festival. She also provided support for notable artists such as Jamie Lidell, Jungle, Kimbra, and Florence and the Machine. In September 2015, she released her critically acclaimed debut album, Me, through XL Recordings and Terrible Records, which successfully reached number five on Billboards Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
Looking ahead to 2025, Empress Of is set to be an opening act for Lorde’s Ultrasound World Tour and released the single ‘Blasting Through the Speakers.’
