United States Empress Of, also known as Lorely Rodriguez, is a Honduran-American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer known for her emotionally and musically intricate electronic music.
As part of Samsung Sound + Vision, Rodriguez collaborated with Paris-based design studio Nonotak for her only Sydney show.
The singer, songwriter, and producer became more independent than ever as she released her first album under her own label Major Arcana.

Rodriguez partnered with an Ad Council-backed national campaign called "Sound It Out Together," aimed at highlighting youth mental health and creating an outlet for adolescents of color to express emotions through music.
Lorely Rodriguez, known professionally as Empress Of, was born on October 19, 1989, and raised in Los Angeles, California, by her mother, Reyna. Her early exposure to music included her father, Adán, being a founding member of the Honduran Latin music ensemble, Banda Blanca. Rodriguez pursued formal education in music, graduating with a sound engineering degree from Boston’s Berklee College of Music in 2011. Following her graduation, she relocated to New York City and became involved in the local music scene, performing with the Brooklyn-based experimental rock band Celestial Shore. However, she soon transitioned to focusing on her solo career.
Rodriguez gained initial recognition in 2012 by anonymously releasing a series of one-minute demos on YouTube, titled “Colorminutes,” which featured simple solid colors. Her first official release was the 7-inch single “Champagne” in November 2012, through No Recordings. The name “Empress Of” originated from a tarot card reading, where the Empress card symbolized fertility, mothering, and strength, resonating with Rodriguez. Her bilingual four-track EP, *Systems*, was released in April 2013 via Double Denim and Terrible Records. This was followed by extensive touring and performances at notable music festivals like SXSW, Iceland Airwaves, and Pitchfork’s Summer Music Festival. She also supported artists such as Jamie Lidell, Jungle, Kimbra, and Florence and the Machine.
In 2015, Rodriguez embarked on a retreat to Valle de Bravo, Mexico, to focus on her debut album, *Me*, which was released on September 11, 2015, through XL Recordings and Terrible Records. The album received critical acclaim and reached number five on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. After *Me*, Rodriguez returned to Los Angeles to foster collaborations and reconnect with her roots. She has since released *Us* (2018) and *I’m Your Empress Of* (2020), and founded her independent label, Major Arcana, in 2020. Her latest album, *For Your Consideration* (2024), was released through Major Arcana and Giant Music, further solidifying her independent artistic vision.
