About

Thomas John Digweed, born in April 1967 in Hastings, England, began his DJ career at the age of 15. He quickly established himself in his hometown by organizing successful club nights and influential raves on Hastings Pier, where notable acts such as Carl Cox and The Prodigy performed. His professional breakthrough occurred in 1993 after he submitted a mixtape to Geoff Oakes, founder of the Renaissance nightclub. This led to a significant collaboration with DJ Sasha, marking the beginning of a long and productive partnership. Together, Sasha and Digweed became pioneers in promoting progressive house music.

In 1994, John Digweed, in partnership with Sasha, released “Renaissance: The Mix Collection,” which was a commercial compilation for a nightclub. This was a strategic marketing effort, setting a precedent for compilation CDs in the electronic music industry. Their collaboration continued with the “Northern Exposure” and “Global Underground” compilations. Digweed then established Bedrock Records to further support the music he championed. He also formed the production duo Bedrock with Nick Muir. Their track “For What You Dream Of” gained significant exposure when it was featured in the 1996 film “Trainspotting.” In 2003, the Bedrock duo produced the soundtrack for the MTV animated series “Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.”

From 2000 to 2005, Digweed developed his “Bedrock” sound through monthly club nights at Heaven in London and The Beach in Brighton, featuring various guest DJs. His global presence expanded with a monthly residency at New York’s Twilo club, alongside Sasha, from 1997 to 2001. In 2001, he was voted the number one DJ in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll. His radio show, Transitions, aired on Kiss 100 from 2000 to 2011 and continues online, also spawning a series of mix albums. In 2002, Digweed toured the United States with Sasha and Jimmy Van M on the Delta Heavy tour, and he curated the soundtrack for the film “Stark Raving Mad.” He also had a cameo in the 2000 film “Groove.” More recently, he collaborated with author John Twelve Hawks on music for the 2014 film “The Traveler.”
