Derwin Dicker, born in 1980 in Peckham, London, and raised in Chelmsford, Essex, is an English electronic music producer, performer, and composer known as Gold Panda. He also performs house music under the alias DJ Jenifa. His musical journey began in his teenage years, acquiring an Atari ST and Akai S300XL with Steinberg’s Cubase, developing an early affinity for electronic music production. Before his widespread recognition, Dicker resided in Japan and pursued studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, experiences that influenced his musical style.
Gold Panda’s career officially launched with several 7-inch records and singles in 2009. A significant milestone occurred in 2010 when he signed with Ghostly International and released his debut full-length album, “Lucky Shiner.” This critically acclaimed album established his reputation for ambient, microhouse, and minimal techno sounds, blending serene emotions with engaging rhythms. He continued his prolific output with “Half of Where You Live” in 2013 and “Good Luck and Do Your Best” in 2016, both released through City Slang.
His fourth studio album, “The Work,” was released on November 11, 2022, showcasing his ongoing evolution in merging emotive techno with danceable elements. Beyond his solo work, Dicker manages his own label, NOTOWN Recordings, and has collaborated on various projects, including a techno record with Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco under the name Selling. He has toured globally, performing in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Paris, and London, consistently selling out shows and expanding his international reach.
