Ian Brown

Ian George Brown, born on February 20, 1963, in Warrington, England, grew up in Orford and later Timperley. His formative years were shaped by the punk movement, inspiring his early musical interests. He co-founded The Stone Roses in 1983, a band that became a pivotal force in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with their 1989 self-titled debut album achieving widespread critical acclaim, later named the best British album of all time in a 2004 poll. After the release of their second album “Second Coming” in 1994, the band experienced line-up changes and ultimately disbanded in 1996. Following the initial split, Brown embarked on a successful solo career, marked by the release of his debut solo single “My Star” in 1998, followed by the album “Unfinished Monkey Business” which sold over 300,000 copies. He continued to release multiple albums, consistently touring and performing at major music festivals globally.

His solo work extended to seven studio albums, a greatest hits compilation, a remix album, an 11-disc box set, and 19 singles that have frequently charted in the UK Top 40. Brown received significant industry recognition, including the “Godlike Genius” award from NME in 2006 and the Q “Legend” Award in 2007. The Stone Roses reunited in 2011, embarking on a reunion tour in 2012, and performed together until their second disbandment in 2017. Despite the reunion, Brown continued his solo endeavors, releasing “First World Problems” in 2018 and his seventh studio album, “Ripples,” in 2019. Beyond music, Brown has made appearances in film and television, including a cameo in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” (2004) and a role in Shane Meadows’ series “This is England ’86” (2010), showcasing his diverse artistic contributions.
