About

Intervals was established in Toronto, Ontario, in 2011 by guitarist Aaron Marshall as a creative outlet. The project quickly gained traction with the independent release of two EPs, “The Space Between” in 2011 and “In Time” in 2012. “The Space Between” was notable for its mixing and mastering by Adam “Nolly” Getgood from Periphery. The “In Time” EP featured appearances by guest soloists Olly Steele of Monuments and David Maxim Micic. This early success led to endorsement deals with brands such as Ernie Ball Music Man, Pearl Drums, and Meinl Cymbals, and the band released a music video for “Epiphany” through Guitar World.

In 2013, Intervals entered the studio to record their debut full-length album. During this period, live bassist Mike Semesky transitioned to vocals, marking a shift in the band’s instrumental focus. The album, “A Voice Within,” was released on March 4, 2014, and saw charting success, reaching 189 on US Sales, 43 on US Rock, 43 on US Indie, and 9 on US Heatseekers. Following Semesky’s departure in late 2014, Marshall decided to return Intervals to an instrumental format. Subsequent albums, “The Shape of Colour” (2015) and “The Way Forward” (2017), cemented the band’s standing in the progressive instrumental scene. These albums featured contributions from notable musicians such as Cameron McLellan and Travis Orbin.

The band continued its progression with “Circadian” in 2020, which included collaborations and reintroduced 7-string guitar arrangements. In 2022 and 2023, Intervals toured with prominent bands like Animals as Leaders and Spiritbox, expanding their live presence across Canada and the United States. Their fifth studio album, “Memory Palace,” released on May 17, 2024, incorporated electronic artists and led to a tour supporting Mammoth WVH. Throughout its history, Intervals has maintained a consistent output of EPs, studio albums, and singles, with Aaron Marshall remaining the core and sole official member.
