Hot Chip

Hot Chip formed in London in 2000, initially as a bedroom recording project by Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard. They both met at Elliott School, Putney, and shared an interest in R&B and house music. Their early work, which began around 1998, focused on a stripped-back acoustic style before gradually moving towards electronic music. Key early releases included the Mexico EP in 2001 and the self-released San Frandisco EP in 2002. In 2003, they signed with Moshi Moshi Records, leading to their debut album, Coming on Strong, in 2004. During this period, the group expanded to include Owen Clarke, Felix Martin, and Al Doyle.

The band’s second album, The Warning (2006), marked a significant turning point, bringing them wider recognition and critical acclaim. This album was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and honored as Mixmag’s Album of the Year in 2006. It also produced two UK top 40 singles: “Over and Over” and “Boy from School.” Their next album, Made in the Dark (2008), featured the single “Ready for the Floor,” which reached number six on the UK Singles Chart and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. Hot Chip continued to release albums, including One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012), Why Make Sense? (2015), A Bath Full of Ecstasy (2019), and Freakout/Release (2022).

Beyond their studio albums, Hot Chip members engage in various musical activities and frequently perform DJ sets worldwide. Al Doyle has also toured with LCD Soundsystem, including their Madison Square Garden concert in 2011. The band is recognized for reimagining their studio tracks during live performances, creating an improvised and energetic atmosphere at numerous festivals such as Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Coachella. In 2025, Hot Chip is set to release their greatest hits album, Joy in Repetition, alongside a new song, “Devotion.”
