John Bryn Williams, known professionally as John B, was born on July 12, 1977, in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. He began his music production career around the age of 14, developing a distinctive style within electronic music. Throughout his career, he has been noted for his unique approach to drum and bass, incorporating elements such as female vocals and trance-like synths, a sound often referred to as ‘trance and bass’ or ‘electrostep’.
John B is the head of Beta Recordings, a drum and bass record label, and also oversees its sub-labels Nu Electro, Tangent, and Chihuahua. His work has appeared on other prominent labels including Formation Records, Metalheadz, and Planet Mu. His discography includes albums such as “Visions” (1997), “Catalyst” (1999), “Future Reference” (2001), “Brainstorm” (2002), “Mercury Skies” (2003), “In:transit” (2004), “Electrostep” (2006), “Light Speed” (2012), and “Evolve” (2016). John B has also explored various musical styles, including darkstep and jazzstep, demonstrating a diverse artistic range.
His career progression has seen him adapt and innovate. Initially known for his ‘electrostep’ style, which fused electro with drum and bass, he has also incorporated disco and rock into his DJ sets, alongside electro house and drum and bass. John B’s influence in the genre is further highlighted by his ranking in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll, placing 92nd in 2009 and 76th in 2010. He continues to engage with his audience through live streams on platforms like Twitch and YouTube, and maintains an active release schedule with new tracks such as “Halo Theme,” “Das Boot,” and “Hypnotize” released in 2025.
