Lion Babe is an American R&B duo from New York City, consisting of singer Jillian Hervey and record producer Lucas Goodman. The duo formed after Hervey and Goodman met through a mutual friend. They released their first single, “Treat Me Like Fire” in 2012, which led to a record deal with Interscope Records. Following this, the duo released their self-titled debut EP in 2014.
Jillian Hervey, the daughter of actress Vanessa Williams, initially pursued a career in dancing. Lucas Goodman began producing in his dorm room at Northeastern University before interning at Truth & Soul Records. Hervey and Goodman officially established Lion Babe, a name derived from Lucas’ horoscope sign (Leo) and Hervey’s distinctive hairstyle, further embracing its unique duality over time.
Their career progressed with the release of their debut album, “Begin,” in 2016, which included production from Pharrell Williams. They also collaborated with other artists, such as Disclosure on the song “Hourglass.” In 2019, they released their second album, “Cosmic Wind,” on their own label, highlighting their independent career trajectory. Their subsequent albums, “Rainbow Child” (2021) and “House of LION BABE” (2024), continued to solidify their presence in the R&B music scene.
