Barry Can’t Swim, the stage name of Joshua Mainnie, is a dynamic Scottish electronic music producer and DJ hailing from Edinburgh. His career took off with the release of his debut EP, “Amor Fati,” in July 2021 through Shall Not Fade, which showcased his unique ability to blend club sounds with organic elements. Following this, he released the EP “More Content” in 2022 via Technicolour Records, further establishing his presence in the electronic music scene.

The pinnacle of his early career came with the launch of his debut full-length album, “When Will We Land?” on October 20, 2023. The album received widespread acclaim, charting at #12 in the UK Albums Chart and winning BBC Radio 1’s award for “Best Dance Album.” Critics praised the album for its intricate melodies and vibrant soundscapes, with Clash rating it 9 out of 10 and PopMatters declaring it the best electronic album of 2023.

In recognition of his talent, Barry was nominated for Best Dance Act at the 2024 Brit Awards and won the DJ Mag ‘Breakthrough Producer’ award in December 2023. His innovative approach to music production, characterized by a fusion of house, afrobeat, and jazz influences, has captivated audiences and critics alike, leading to his inclusion in numerous end-of-year lists.
