Muna is an acclaimed American indie pop band formed in 2013, consisting of members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson. The trio began their musical journey while studying at the University of Southern California, where they initially experimented with various genres before honing in on their signature sound of hooky electronic pop. Their debut EP, “More Perfect,” released in 2014, garnered attention and led to their signing with RCA Records, paving the way for their first full-length album, “About U,” which was released in February 2017 and received critical acclaim.
Following the success of their debut, Muna continued to evolve their artistry with the release of their sophomore album, “Saves the World,” in September 2019. This album showcased their growth as songwriters and performers, featuring hit singles like “Number One Fan” and “Who.” Their dynamic performances, including opening for major acts like Harry Styles and Kacey Musgraves, further solidified their reputation in the music industry.
In 2021, Muna made a significant career shift by signing with Phoebe Bridgers’ label, Saddest Factory Records. Their first single under the new label, “Silk Chiffon,” featuring Bridgers, was celebrated for its vibrant celebration of queer love and became a standout track of 2021. The band’s self-titled third album, released in June 2022, marked a high point in their career, receiving widespread acclaim and charting in multiple countries.
Muna’s commitment to authenticity and representation in their music resonates deeply with fans, as they often address themes of sexuality and identity. Their recent tours, including the “Life’s So Fun” Tour and performances at major festivals like Coachella, have showcased their energetic stage presence and solidified their status as a leading force in the indie pop scene.
