Mutemath, led by Paul Meany, delivers an experimental sound that has resonated in the alternative rock scene, securing Grammy nominations and global tours. After establishing their unique experimental sound, Mutemath, led by Paul Meany, launched their career with the self-release of their debut Reset EP in 2004 through their co-founded independent label, Teleprompt Records, securing a developmental deal with Warner Music. Bassist Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas joined in 2004. Leveraging social media, they quickly built a substantial fanbase, achieving sold-out shows by early 2005 and exposure on ‘The Music is Much Too Loud Tour’ with Mae and Circa Survive.
Mutemath then independently released their self-titled debut album in January 2006 after a legal dispute with Warner Music Group; the special edition sold over 10,000 copies in its first month via Teleprompt’s online store. Featured in Billboard, Pollstar, Alternative Press, Paste, Spin, and MTV News’ ‘You Hear It First’ in 2006. After extensive 2006 touring at major festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Van’s Warped Tour, Warner Bros. Records re-released their debut album on September 26, 2006, which debuted at No.
Mutemath released Armistice Live in 2010. Following Greg Hills 2010 departure and Todd Gummermans 2011 addition as guitarist, Odd Soul was released. They supported Linkin Park and Incubus on the 2011 Honda Civic Tour. Their 2015 album Vitals was supported by a 2016 World Tour (US and Europe) and a spot on Twenty One Pilots’ Emotional Roadshow World Tour, alongside their Changes remix album.
In 2017, Mutemath released the single ‘Hit Parade’ and the album Play Dead. Following 2017 lineup changes, Paul Meany continued Mutemath as a solo project, releasing the Voice In the Silence EP (2018). He evolved the projects sound with Love Light a Way (2021) and the Distance EP (2024), demonstrating Mutemaths ongoing commitment to pioneering alternative rock.
