Derek Vincent Smith, known as Pretty Lights, is an American electronic music producer whose work has significantly influenced the electronic music scene. After launching the Pretty Lights project in 2004, Derek Vincent Smith, known professionally as Pretty Lights, quickly became a defining force in electronic music. His debut album, ‘Taking Up Your Precious Time,’ released in 2006, showcased his unique sound. By 2007-2008, Pretty Lights gained significant recognition with late-night performances for acts like STS9 and Widespread Panic.
Following the Grammy recognition, Pretty Lights relocated to New Orleans in 2014 for new music production. He expanded his live performances, headlining the Suwannee Hulaween music festival in 2015. Smith formed the Pretty Lights Live band in 2016, featuring a rotating lineup of musicians, and embarked on the ‘Episodic Festival’ U.S. tour that same year, further solidifying his reputation for groundbreaking live shows.
Pretty Lights maintained a powerful live presence, celebrating a significant milestone in 2018 with his tenth consecutive year performing at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. After a period dedicated to creative development, he announced ‘The Soundship Spacesystem Tour’ in 2023, followed by ‘Check Your Vector’ Tour in 2024, signaling a highly anticipated return to the touring circuit. Looking ahead, Pretty Lights is set to launch the inaugural Yahn Dawn at Meadow Creek multi-day camping festival in 2025, continuing to push the boundaries of electronic music and live performance.
