About

Robin Miriam Carlsson, known professionally as Robyn, was born on June 12, 1979, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her early exposure to an independent theatre group, led by her parents, fostered her unique sense of style and creativity. Robyn’s musical journey began at a young age, with her voicing the character of Miranda in the 1989 animated film ‘The Journey to Melonia’ and recording the theme song for the Swedish television show ‘Lilla Sportspegeln’ in 1991 at age 12. Her talent was recognized by Swedish pop singer Meja in the early 1990s, leading to a record deal with Ricochet Records Sweden at age 14.

Robyn signed with RCA Records in 1994, marking the official start of her pop music career. Her debut single, “You’ve Got That Somethin’,” was released in Sweden that year, followed by her Swedish breakthrough with “Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect).” These tracks were part of her 1995 debut album, ‘Robyn Is Here,’ which later produced two Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, “Do You Know (What It Takes)” and “Show Me Love,” contributing to her U.S. breakthrough in late 1997. Despite international success, Robyn was diagnosed with exhaustion, prompting a return to Sweden to recover. Her second album, ‘My Truth’ (1999), and third album, ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ (2002), were released exclusively in Sweden, with ‘My Truth’ reaching number two on the Swedish charts. She parted ways with her label in 2004 due to a lack of artistic control and founded her own label, Konichiwa Records, in 2005, to gain more creative freedom.

Her fourth album, ‘Robyn’ (2005), marked a significant turning point, showcasing a new electropop sound and becoming her first number-one album in Sweden. This album gained international attention and earned her three Swedish Grammy Awards in 2006. She continued to build on this success with the ‘Body Talk’ trilogy of mini-albums in 2010, which received widespread critical acclaim and three Grammy Award nominations. The lead single “Dancing On My Own” became a signature song, rejuvenating her career and achieving top-10 status in the UK and on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Robyn has since collaborated with various artists, released two collaborative EPs, ‘Do It Again’ (2014) with Röyksopp and ‘Love Is Free’ (2015) with La Bagatelle Magique, and her eighth solo album, ‘Honey’ (2018), to widespread acclaim. Her artistic evolution and independent approach have solidified her status as an influential figure in contemporary pop music.
