Vessels, an innovative electronic band from West Yorkshire, England, formed in 2005 and has since carved a unique niche in the music industry. Comprised of five talented members—Lee J. Malcolm, Martin Teff, Tim Mitchell, Tom Evans, and Peter Wright—the band initially emerged as a post-rock outfit, quickly gaining recognition for their dynamic sound. Their debut single, “Yuki / Forever the Optimist,” released in 2007, was heralded by BBC Radio 1 as one of the hottest new tracks, setting the stage for their promising career.
In 2008, Vessels released their first album, “White Fields and Open Devices,” recorded in Minneapolis with renowned producer John Congleton. This album showcased their post-rock roots and was followed by their sophomore effort, “Helioscope,” in 2011, which further solidified their reputation with a successful headlining performance at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival. The album received favorable reviews, including a notable score from Pitchfork Media, highlighting their evolving sound.
The band’s third album, “Dilate,” released in 2015, marked a significant shift towards a more electronic sound, incorporating synthesizers and percussion to create danceable tracks. This evolution was met with critical acclaim, earning a Metacritic score of 77/100, and demonstrating their ability to push the boundaries of their genre.
Continuing their trajectory, Vessels released “The Great Distraction” in 2017, featuring collaborations with notable artists like John Grant and Wayne Coyne. This album further exemplified their commitment to innovation, blending electronic elements with their post-rock foundation. Vessels remains a vital force in the music scene, consistently captivating audiences with their genre-defying sound and artistic vision.
