About

Aaron Lee Tasjan was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on August 24, 1986. His family relocated to San Juan Capistrano, California, when he was ten, and later to New Albany, Ohio. Both of Tasjan’s parents were musicians, though not professionally. He taught himself guitar at age 11 by learning Oasis songs.

By age 16, Tasjan had performed with Peter Yarrow and received the Outstanding Guitarist Award in the Essentially Ellington Competition at Jazz at Lincoln Center. After graduating from New Albany High School, he declined a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, opting to move to Brooklyn, New York, in 2006. In New York, Tasjan co-formed the band Semi Precious Weapons with Justin Tranter, Cole Whittle, and Dan Crean. Their debut album, “We Love You,” was produced by Tony Visconti and released on Razor & Tie Records. Following his departure from Semi Precious Weapons in 2008 due to personal reasons, Tasjan formed The Madison Square Gardeners, a band described by The Village Voice as “The best NYC has to offer,” with whom he released one full-length album and three EPs over three years.

In 2013, Tasjan relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to concentrate on songwriting and his solo career. This move marked a significant turning point, leading to the release of two EPs, “Crooked River Burning” and “Telling Stories to the Wall.” His debut full-length solo album, “In the Blazes,” was released on October 6, 2015, followed by “Silver Tears” on October 28, 2016. In 2022, Tasjan received a Grammy Award nomination for Best American Roots Song for his work on Yola’s “Diamond Studded Shoes.” His recent album, “Stellar Evolution” (2024), showcases his continued embrace of diverse musical styles and personal narratives, including addressing LGBTQ+ issues and themes of sobriety.
