Sasha Rebecca Spielberg, known professionally as Buzzy Lee, was born on May 14, 1990, in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of film director Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw, she graduated from Brown University. Her early career included acting in several of her father’s films, such as “The Terminal” (2004), “Munich” (2005), “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008), and “The Post” (2017). These roles provided her with initial exposure to the entertainment industry.
Spielberg later expanded her artistic scope into music. She performed in the band Wardell, previously known as Brother/Sister, alongside her brother Theo. The band released their Brother/Sister EP “The Accidental Zoo” in April 2011, followed by the album “Love/Idleness” in 2015. She also collaborated with composer Nicolas Jaar under the name Just Friends, releasing works such as a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche” and the original song “Don’t Tell Me.” In 2015, Spielberg produced, wrote for, and starred in Snapchat’s first mobile series, “Literally Can’t Even.” Her solo music career as Buzzy Lee began with the release of her debut EP, “Facepaint,” on April 27, 2018, produced by Nicolas Jaar. This period marked a transition into her distinctive solo artistry.
Since 2019, Buzzy Lee has been actively collaborating with various artists, broadening her musical presence. She worked with rapper JPEGMafia on tracks such as “Grimy Waifu” and “Dots Freestyle Remix” from his 2019 album “All My Heroes Are Cornballs.” This collaboration continued on JPEGMafia’s 2021 album “LP!” with the song “Nemo!”, and again on his 2024 album “I Lay Down My Life for You” on the songs “Don’t Put Anything On the Bible” and “I Lay Down My Life For You.” She also collaborated with rapper Denzel Curry on the song “John Wayne” from his 2022 album “Melt My Eyez See Your Future.” Her album “Spoiled Love” was released in 2021, and her latest album, “Internal Affairs,” was released on March 31, 2023. This recent work reflects her continued evolution as a songwriter and performer. In May 2022, she married Harry McNally.
