Myanmar Ah Moon is a highly recognized singer and songwriter from Myanmar, known for her contributions to pop music and her advocacy for social change.
Ah Moon was a member of this girl group, which signed with the independent American music label, Power Music of Los Angeles, California — the first for any pop and hip hop band from Myanmar.
Ah Moon, born Lung Sitt Ja Moon on January 19, 1991, in Myitkyina, Kachin State, Myanmar, began her musical journey in church, where her father served as a Baptist minister. She developed a diverse skill set, studying acting, singing, dancing, languages, violin, and piano. Ah Moon’s early career also involved modeling, winning Best Talent in the Miss Christmas Pageant in Yangon in 2009 and the Miss Alliance Francaise Pageant, held by the French Embassy, in the same year. She holds a degree in Russian from the Yangon University of Foreign Language, which she earned in 2012. Her proficiency in five languages has broadened her reach and allowed for diverse collaborations.
Ah Moon rose to prominence as a founding member of Me N Ma Girls, Myanmar’s first all-girl pop band, formed in 2010. The group, initially known as The Tiger Girls, released their debut album, ‘Year of the Tiger Girls’, in 2011, garnering significant domestic and international attention. After separating from their initial producer, they rebranded as Me N Ma Girls and released ‘Mingalabar (Welcome)’ in 2011. The band achieved another milestone in 2014 with a nomination for Best Music Video at the VIMA Music Awards for their song ‘Girl Strong’. Her solo career began in 2014 with the release of her first Burmese album, ‘Min Pay Tae A Chit’, which rapidly sold out.
Continuing her solo artistic development, Ah Moon released her second album, ‘Automatic’, in 2015, produced by Grammy-nominated Luigie Gonzalez. Her third album, ‘Very Dangerous’, released in 2017, achieved the number one sales position in Myanmar music stores. In 2018, Ah Moon was recognized globally when she was included in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30 – Asia – Entertainment & Sports’ list. That same year, she made her debut as a lead actress in the film ‘Mystery of Burma: Beyond The Dotehtawady’, which was successful in Myanmar and screened internationally in Thailand and Singapore. She also collaborated with Jason Derulo and Ar T on the localized version of ‘Colors’, the official Coca-Cola anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Ah Moon has consistently used her platform to raise awareness and funds for social causes, collaborating with musicians worldwide to create impactful music.
