Alex Isley

Alex Isley, an American singer-songwriter and producer, has carved a unique niche in the music industry with her rich lineage and innovative sound. Born into a musical family, she is the daughter of Ernie Isley from the legendary Isley Brothers. Growing up in Los Angeles, Alex was immersed in music from an early age, influenced by icons like Stevie Wonder and Ella Fitzgerald. Her formal training began at age 12, leading her to graduate from the LA County High School for the Arts and later earn a degree in jazz studies from UCLA, where she honed her songwriting skills.

In 2012, Isley released her debut EP, “The Love/Art Memoirs,” which received critical acclaim for its lush vocals and calming production. This marked the beginning of a flourishing career, as she collaborated with notable artists such as 9th Wonder, Masego, and Tank. Her music, a blend of R&B, hip-hop, and jazz, showcases her silky smooth vocals and has been featured in popular platforms like NPR’s Tiny Desk series and HBO’s “Insecure.”

Despite the challenges of establishing herself in a competitive industry, Isley persevered, earning two Grammy nominations for her collaboration on “Back to Love” with Robert Glasper. Her recent works, including the album “I Left My Heart in Ladera,” have charted on Billboard, solidifying her impact in contemporary jazz and R&B.
