Altan

Altan, an iconic Irish folk band, has brought traditional Donegal music to global stages and maintains a distinguished career spanning over 40 years. After releasing their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Ceol Aduaidh’ (Music of the North) in 1983, the musicians who would later formally establish Altan gained significant international traction, touring America and establishing a robust market for their traditional Irish sound. Officially adopting the name Altan in 1987, the ensemble released their self-titled album, ‘Altan,’ the same year, quickly solidifying their identity and sound. They continued their prolific output with ‘Horse with a Heart’ in 1989, building a strong foundation for their distinctive career in traditional Irish music.

Kicking off 2024, Altan delivered a notable performance with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and RANT at Glasgow Celtic Connections. Highlighting their continuous dedication to traditional Donegal music, Altan released their highly anticipated latest album, ‘Donegal,’ in 2024, marking over four decades of celebrated career.
