Anthony David Harrington, born on December 4, 1971, in Savannah, Georgia, embarked on his musical journey after serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the Gulf War. He participated in 28 combat missions and began writing music as a coping mechanism during this period. Upon returning from service, David moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to pursue a career in music, initially focusing on poetry. In Atlanta, he established a friendship and professional relationship with singer-songwriter India.Arie. This collaboration was foundational, with David writing “Part of My Life” for India.Arie’s Grammy-nominated album, *Acoustic Soul*. He also toured as a supporting act for her during this time, gaining early experience in the music industry.
David’s solo career began with independent releases, including *Three Chords & The Truth* in 2004, followed by *The Red Clay Chronicles* in 2006. A significant turning point was his third album, *Acey Duecy*, released in 2008, which featured the duet “Words” with India.Arie. This track garnered attention, leading to a Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Duo or Group/Collaboration. His fourth album, *As Above So Below*, released on February 22, 2011, featured collaborations with Algebra Blessett, Phonte, and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men. The single “4Evermore” became a top 20 R&B hit, reaching number 18 on the US R&B charts. Subsequent albums include *Love Out Loud* (2012), *The Powerful Now* (2016), and *Hello Like Before: The Songs of Bill Withers* (2018), a tribute album produced by Eddie “Gypsy” Stokes. In 2023, he released *Heaven: The Best of Anthony David* and the single “Need You Now” with Algebra Blessett.
