Bad Omens originated in Richmond, Virginia, in 2015, founded by vocalist and producer Noah Sebastian, guitarist Nicholas Ruffilo, and bassist Vincent Riquier. The band quickly expanded with the addition of guitarist and producer Joakim “Jolly” Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio. Their formation began with Noah Sebastian secretly writing lyrics in 2013 while also performing with Immoralist. After departing Immoralist in 2014, he contacted Nicholas Ruffilo in 2015 to establish Bad Omens. The group, with members relocating from Sweden and Richmond, initially drew attention with an untitled demo EP, which led to a record deal with Sumerian Records. Their debut self-titled album was released in 2016.
Bad Omens achieved significant career progression following their debut. In 2016, they gained traction with singles like “Glass Houses” and “Exit Wounds,” and particularly with “The Worst in Me,” which garnered nearly a million streams in a month. This success led to opening spots on major tours, including the Sumerian Records 10 Year Tour alongside artists like Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, and After the Burial. Their rising profile continued with an appearance on Warped Tour in 2017, exposing them to a broader audience of pop-punk and metal fans. Noah Sebastian also collaborated with American deathcore act Winds of Plague in 2017 on their album *Blood of My Enemy*.
The band’s third album, *The Death of Peace of Mind* (2022), marked a turning point, featuring their platinum-certified hit “Just Pretend.” This period saw extensive touring, including filling in for Every Time I Die on the Voyeurist Tour with Underoath, and supporting A Day to Remember, The Ghost Inside, and Beartooth. They also headlined their own North American tour in 2022 with Dayseeker, Make Them Suffer, and Thousand Below. Further tours in Europe and North America followed in 2023, along with support slots for Bring Me the Horizon in 2024 and Linkin Park later the same year. In January 2024, they released “V.A.N.” in collaboration with Poppy, and *Concrete Jungle [The OST]*, an experimental extension of their third album, in May 2024. New singles “Specter” and “Impose” were released in August and September 2025, respectively, as they work on their fourth studio album.
