Latin Grammy-winning and Grammy Award-nominated ensemble Flor de Toloache is known for its trademark combination of traditional and modern mariachi styles. They have toured around the world and appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.
Flor de Toloache’s beginnings start with New York native Mireya Ramos. As one of the few females in the male-dominated mariachi culture, she started New York City’s first all-female mariachi ensemble with co-founder Shae Fiol in 2008. Flor de Toloache began performing around the city’s subway stations, later releasing their first album in 2014. In 2015, the group embarked on a worldwide tour as an opening act for The Arcs, a band led by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. This resulted in a variety of media appearances and praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, The New Yorker, GQ, and The New York Times.
With a fresh take on traditional Mexican styles, Flor de Toloache is one of the most exciting groups in Latin American music today. They have been recognized repeatedly at the Latin Grammys and received a nomination at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2019 for their album Indestructible. The widely praised album includes features from John Legend and Miguel and spawned several successful singles. With a reputation as one of the best mariachi groups in the industry, Flor de Toloache is an ensemble that continues to shine.
