Brad Douglas Paisley was born on October 28, 1972, in Glen Dale, West Virginia. His foundational interest in country music was cultivated by his maternal grandfather, Warren Jarvis, who provided him with his first guitar and taught him to play at the age of eight. This early exposure led to his first public performance in his church, and by age 13, he had written his first song, “Born on Christmas Day,” which later appeared on his album, “Brad Paisley Christmas.” He performed weekly on “Jamboree USA” for eight years, opening for artists like The Judds and George Jones, and became the youngest inductee into the program’s Hall of Fame.
After graduating from John Marshall High School in 1991 and attending West Liberty State College, Paisley received an ASCAP scholarship to Belmont University in Nashville, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1995. Shortly after graduation, he signed a songwriting contract with EMI Music Publishing, leading to his first success as a writer for David Kersh’s top-five hit “Another You” in 1997. He then signed with Arista Nashville in 1998, releasing his debut album “Who Needs Pictures” in 1999. This album produced his first number-one hit, “He Didn’t Have to Be,” and earned him the CMA Horizon Award and ACM’s best new male vocalist trophy in 2000. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2001, at the age of 28.
Throughout his career, Paisley has released 12 studio albums with Arista Nashville before transferring to EMI Nashville in 2023. His commercially successful albums include “Mud on the Tires” (2003) and “Time Well Wasted” (2005), both certified double platinum by the RIAA. He has achieved over 50 singles on the Billboard country charts, with 19 reaching number one, including a notable streak of ten consecutive number-one singles from 2006 to 2009. His collaborative works include projects with Alison Krauss, Keith Urban, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, and Alabama. Beyond music, Paisley has authored books, made television appearances, and is involved in charitable efforts, such as co-founding a free referral-based grocery store in Nashville in 2018.
