About

Brittney Spencer, born on September 8, 1988, is an American country singer-songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland. Her early musical development began in church and was further nurtured through magnet schools, where she learned guitar and piano. Spencer also received vocal training that prepared her for recording studio work, performing background vocals for R&B and gospel artists such as Jason Nelson. In February 2013, she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a full-time career in country music. She continued her education at Middle Tennessee State University while also working as a vocal coach and performing as a background singer for artists like Christopher Cross and Carrie Underwood, and playing in various Nashville venues.

Spencer gained significant public attention in 2020 after a Twitter video of her covering The Highwomen’s “Crowded Table” went viral, attracting over 150,000 views and praise from notable artists like Maren Morris and Amanda Shires. This led to the release of her debut extended play (EP), “Compassion,” in 2020, featuring tracks such as “Damn Right, You’re Wrong” and “My Perfect Life.” In late 2021, Spencer performed alongside Mickey Guyton and Madeline Edwards at the 55th Annual Country Music Association Awards, singing “Love My Hair.” In November 2022, she signed a recording contract with Elektra Records and released another EP, “If I Ever Get There: A Day at Blackbird Studio.

Her debut album, “My Stupid Life,” released in early 2024, was produced by Daniel Tashian, Marcus “MarcLo” Lomax, and Romil Hemnani, with collaborations from artists including Grace Potter and Maren Morris, and guitar contributions from Jason Isbell. The album was featured on platforms such as CBS Saturday Morning, NPR Tiny Desk, and the TODAY Show. Spencer also made her Billboard Hot 100 debut as a featured artist on Beyoncé’s “Blackbiird” from the “Cowboy Carter” album, reaching #27. She has toured extensively, sharing stages with artists including Jason Isbell, Willie Nelson, and Brandi Carlile, and has performed at major festivals such as CMA Fest, Stagecoach, and Tortuga Festival, including opening for Bruce Springsteen and The Chicks at Hyde Park’s BTS Festival.
