Calvin Lashon Woods, known professionally as Calboy, was born on April 3, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Calumet City. Growing up below the poverty line, Calboy found an outlet in music to express his experiences. He is one of five children raised by a single mother. His early life was marked by personal tragedies, including the loss of two close friends, one to a drug overdose and another to gun violence. This background has informed much of his musical output, contributing to his authentic and relatable storytelling in the hip hop and drill genres. His cousin is the late rapper King Von.
Calboy commenced his musical career in 2014, releasing his debut mixtape, “The Chosen One,” on July 7, 2017, followed by “Anxiety” on December 7, 2017. A significant turning point came with the release of “Calboy, the Wildboy” on June 18, 2018, which included the track “Unjudge Me” featuring Moneybagg Yo. His single “Envy Me,” released on September 13, 2018, gained critical and commercial success, peaking at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving quintuple platinum certification by the RIAA. This success led to his signing with Polo Grounds Music, an imprint of RCA Records. He released his debut EP, “Wildboy,” on May 31, 2019, which reached number 30 on the Billboard 200. In 2020, he released another EP, “Long Live The Kings,” and was recognized in XXL’s Freshman Class. He has since released the albums “Black Heart” (2022) and “UNCHAINED” (2023).
Throughout his career, Calboy has collaborated with a variety of notable artists, including Chance the Rapper, Pop Smoke, YG, Lil Mosey, Polo G, Meek Mill, Lil Durk, and Young Thug. He has embarked on headline tours, such as the Rockstar Wild Boyz Tour (2019), and supported major acts like Kodak Black on the Dying to Live Tour (2019) and 21 Savage on the I Am > I Was Tour (2019). His work has earned him certifications, including a Gold certification for his EP “Wildboy” (2019) and for his single “Chariot” featuring Meek Mill, Lil Durk, and Young Thug, further solidifying his position within the music industry.
