About

Carolina Liar is a Swedish-American pop rock band centered around singer-songwriter Chad Wolf, originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Wolf moved to Los Angeles at 22, where he undertook various temporary jobs, including working as an extra in a Celine Dion music video. His journey in music advanced significantly after an internship with songwriter Diane Warren, which helped in developing his writing abilities. A pivotal moment occurred when Wolf’s music was discovered by Swedish record producer Max Martin. Martin heard one of Wolf’s compositions, requested more material, and subsequently invited Wolf to Stockholm to record an album. The band was formed in Los Angeles, California, and active from the 2000s to 2010s, with Wolf handling lead vocals. He was supported by a Swedish band including Jim Almgren Gandara and Rickard Göransson on guitar, Johan Carlsson on keyboards, Max Grahn on drums, and Erik Haager on bass.

The band released their debut album, “Coming to Terms,” on Atlantic Records in 2008. This album featured two notable singles: “Show Me What I’m Looking For,” which achieved platinum certification, and “I’m Not Over,” which earned gold certification. “I’m Not Over” was featured in the 2008 film “What Happens in Vegas” and the “King of the Hill” episode “Cops and Robert,” as well as in the video game “UEFA Euro 2008.” The single “Show Me What I’m Looking For” gained further exposure through FOX Sports commercials for the 2009 MLB All-Star Game and MTV’s “The Hills.” It was also used in commercials for Investigation Discovery’s show “Disappeared” and We TV’s “The Locator.” In 2014, an instrumental version of “Show Me What I’m Looking For” was used in an advertising campaign for Swinton Insurance, featuring the “Britain’s Got Talent” 2013 winners, Attraction.

Carolina Liar has also been involved in various tours, supporting artists such as David Cook and Gavin DeGraw on their 2011 Fall Tour. In 2012, they served as the opening act for the Kelly Clarkson and The Fray Tour. They also opened for Rob Thomas on his Cradlesong Tour, performing at venues like the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Beyond the band’s releases, members have contributed to other projects. Peter Carlsson co-produced Ariana Grande’s single “Love Me Harder,” while Johan Carlsson co-wrote and co-produced her single “Dangerous Woman.” More recently, from 2019 onwards, “Show Me What I’m Looking For” experienced a resurgence in popularity due to its use by YouTuber David Dobrik in his videos, leading to millions of new streams and uses on platforms like TikTok. In January 2022, Chad Wolf performed an acoustic version of the song on Dobrik’s VIEWS podcast.
