In 2002, she enrolled at Northeastern State University to study broadcast journalism. In 2004, she auditioned for the fourth season of “American Idol,” eventually winning the competition in 2005. Her debut single, “Inside Your Heaven” (2005), made history as the first country artist’s single to debut atop the US Billboard Hot 100.
Following her “American Idol” victory, Underwood released her debut album, “Some Hearts” (2005), which became the best-selling debut album by a solo female country artist. This album earned her three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. She continued her success with albums like “Carnival Ride” (2007) and “Play On” (2009), consistently achieving number-one singles on country radio. Her career milestones include becoming the first woman in history to have eleven consecutive top-two singles and being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.
