Charles Wesley Godwin

Charles Wesley Godwin was born on May 18, 1993, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He played football for Morgantown High School. Godwin started playing music in 2013 while studying finance at West Virginia University, where he learned guitar and began songwriting. His musical style is influenced by artists such as Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Chris Knight, and Ryan Bingham. He independently released his debut album, “Seneca,” on February 15, 2019, which received positive reception, including recognition from Rolling Stone and NPR’s Mountain Stage.

In 2021, Godwin released his second album, “How the Mighty Fall,” which explored themes of mortality, hope, and regret. This album was produced by Al Torrence. The global pandemic impacted his touring plans for “Seneca,” but he subsequently toured behind “How the Mighty Fall.” His career progressed significantly with the release of “Family Ties” in 2023, a 17-song album described as diary-like and highly personal. This album further elevated his career and connected with audiences. He has since performed on national television shows and major festivals.

Godwin continued his prolific output in 2024, writing nearly 30 songs and releasing the 7-track EP, “Lonely Mountain Town,” on February 28, via Big Loud. This EP features contemplative songs, including collaborations with ERNEST on “Dead To Rights” and Scott Avett on a cover of Jason Molina’s “Hammer Down.” He has appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and CBS Saturday Sessions, and made his Stagecoach and Bonnaroo debuts in 2024. He also contributed the song “Winter’s Come and Gone” to “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” soundtrack in 2023. Godwin was signed by Big Loud Records in early 2023.
