Justin Paul Tucker was born on November 21, 1989, in Houston, Texas, and attended Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. At Westlake, he played wide receiver, safety, and placekicker, demonstrating early athletic versatility. He also played soccer until his sophomore year. Tucker continued his athletic and academic pursuits at the University of Texas at Austin, playing for the Longhorns football team. In 2011, he distinguished himself by kicking the game-winning field goal in a historic rivalry game against Texas A&M. Despite his collegiate performance, Tucker was not selected in the 2012 NFL draft, but his talent was recognized when he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2012.
Tucker quickly proved his value to the Ravens during the 2012 preseason, leading to him being named the starting kicker. In his debut season, he demonstrated remarkable accuracy, converting all 42 extra point attempts and 30 of 33 field goal attempts. A significant early highlight of his career came in the Divisional Round of the 2012–13 NFL playoffs, where he kicked a 47-yard field goal in double overtime against the Denver Broncos, securing a victory that sent the Ravens to the AFC Championship Game. He further contributed to the Ravens’ success by helping them win Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, earning his first Super Bowl ring. Throughout his time with the Ravens, Tucker built a reputation for consistency and reliability, becoming a key offensive weapon for the team.
Over his career, Tucker has consistently maintained high field goal percentages and accumulated numerous accolades, including multiple Pro Bowl selections and First-team All-Pro honors. He holds several NFL records, including the longest field goal at 66 yards, achieved in 2021 against the Detroit Lions, and is second in NFL history for career field goal percentage. His sustained performance led to a four-year, $24 million extension with the Ravens in 2022, making him the highest-paid kicker in the league at that time. Beyond football, Tucker is a classically trained bass-baritone who can sing opera in seven languages, showcasing a unique talent that he has also leveraged in various public appearances and charitable efforts.
