Colde, whose birth name is Kim Hee-su, entered the music scene in 2016 as a member of the indie R&B duo offonoff. His solo career began officially with the release of his first solo EP, “Wave,” in 2018. Following the closure of his initial label, YG Entertainment subsidiary HIGHGRND, in 2018, Colde demonstrated entrepreneurial drive by establishing his own record label, WAVY, at approximately 24 years old. This was later followed by the founding of two additional labels, Layered Island and PYRAT.
Throughout his career, Colde has consistently released music, including numerous singles and several albums. His versatility is evident through collaborations with a range of prominent artists, such as RM of BTS, Heize, and Baekhyun of EXO. He has also contributed to various K-drama soundtracks, including “No Gain No Love.” In 2024, Colde embarked on his first world tour, “BLUEPRINT,” which included stops in 20 cities across the U.S., Canada, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. This year also saw the release of his first all-English single album, “YIN,” a precursor to a full-length album planned for 2025. This project showcased his ability to draw inspiration from diverse musical influences like Pharrell Williams, The Neptunes, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and Nirvana, while maintaining his unique artistic identity.
Colde’s creative process is heavily informed by his design background, which he studied in college. He approaches music production with a visual mindset, often perceiving music through colors and visual elements before translating them into sound. This design-oriented approach extends to his collaborations, where he selects artists based on how their voices can add specific ‘colors’ to a track. His artistic vision is also reflected in his stage name, Colde, chosen to create a deliberate contrast with the “heartwarming stories” he tells through his music, and the addition of an ‘e’ for typographical balance.
