United Kingdom Dappy, lead singer of the Camden-based hip hop and grime trio N-Dubz, has established a solo career in music, releasing solo albums and singles.

Costadinos Contostavlos, known professionally as Dappy, was born on June 11, 1987, in London, England. He rose to prominence as the lead singer of N-Dubz, a hip hop and grime trio that also included his cousin Tulisa Contostavlos and Fazer (Richard Rawson). The group gained significant recognition in the early 2000s, performing on television shows like “Never Mind the Buzzcocks” starting in 2007. During this period, Dappy also made cameo appearances in music videos for other artists, including K.I.G.’s “Head, Shoulders, Kneez and Toez,” Gracious K’s “Migraine Skank,” and Chipmunk’s “Chip Diddy Chip.”
In 2011, N-Dubz went on a hiatus, leading Dappy to pursue a solo career. He signed with Takeover Entertainment Ltd and released his debut solo single, “No Regrets,” which achieved commercial success, peaking at number one in the UK and Scotland, and number eight in Ireland. This was followed by his second single, “Rockstar,” released on February 26, 2012, featuring Queen guitarist Brian May. His debut solo album, “Bad Intentions,” was released shortly after, featuring singles like “Come with Me.” In 2015, Dappy released the single “Beautiful Me,” which reached number 19 in the UK, followed by the independent EP “Eros Apollo” later that year. He continued to release independent singles such as “Hip Hip Hooray” and “Kiss” in 2016, and “Straight Facts” and “Spotlight” in 2017. In 2018, he released “Oh My” featuring Ay Em, and “All We Know.” He collaborated with Tory Lanez on “Not Today” in 2019, and released his second solo album, “Fortune,” in 2021.
Throughout his career, Dappy has been recognized for his distinctive style, including his “eye-catching headwear,” specifically woolly chullos, often referred to as “Dappy hats.” He has recorded for various labels, including Polydor, Def Jam, Island Records, AATW, Takeover Ent, and EMI. Dappy also co-wrote tracks for artists such as Katy Perry, and N-Dubz collaborated with Take That’s Gary Barlow on new material. In 2015, he publicly endorsed Norman Lamb in the Liberal Democrats leadership election, his manager Archie Lamb’s father.
