About

Darío de Jesús Gómez Zapata, born on February 6, 1951, in San Jerónimo, Antioquia, Colombia, became a significant figure in Colombian music. He embarked on his musical journey by writing verses at 14, while also working as a mechanic and farmer. His early career saw him join the group Los Legendarios, where he performed alongside his brother Heriberto Gómez. A pivotal moment in his career was his solo debut in 1985, marked by the success of “Decidelo (Decide it)” and the release of his first full-length album, “Así se le canta al despecho.”

Throughout his career, Darío Gómez achieved substantial success, selling over six million albums across national and international markets. He was known for composing and interpreting numerous songs, with “Nadie es eterno” (“Nobody Is Eternal”) being one of his most recognized works. Other compositions include “La oveja negra” and “Tú y la gente.” His music, often characterized by its themes of heartbreak, resonated deeply with his audience, earning him the affectionate title “El Rey del Despecho” (King of Heartbreak).

Beyond his musical recordings, Gómez ventured into other media, including acting for television in 2007. In 2009, he appeared in a campaign for Telefónica Telecom Colombia, further expanding his public presence.
