Deap Vally, an American rock duo, was formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2011. The group consisted of Lindsey Troy on guitar and vocals, and Julie Edwards on drums and vocals. Edwards and Troy met at a crochet class in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, and quickly formed the band. In July 2012, Deap Vally released their first single, “Gonna Make My Own Money,” through Ark Recordings. This release coincided with their London debut the same month. By August 2012, they signed with Island Records and Communion, and their single “End of the World” was featured as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1 in October 2012. Their debut album, “Sistrionix,” was recorded at Infrasound Studio in San Pedro, Los Angeles, with Lars Stalfors.
The duo’s career progressed with significant performance and recording milestones. They supported major artists such as The Vaccines on their UK tour in November 2012 and opened for Muse in Finland, Germany, and the Baltic states. In April 2013, they released the four-track EP “Get Deap!” and showcased their talent on BBC2’s “Later… with Jools Holland” in May 2013. The band also performed at renowned festivals including Glastonbury Festival and Bonnaroo Music Festival in June 2013. Their debut album, “Sistrionix,” was officially released on June 24, 2013, via Island Records/Communion, with two of their albums eventually charting on the UK Albums Chart.
Throughout their career, Deap Vally continued to support prominent acts, opening for Marilyn Manson during The Hell Not Hallelujah tour in early 2015, Peaches during the Rub Tour in October 2015, and Wolfmother during the Gypsy Caravan tour in early 2016. In mid-2016, they toured as openers for the Red Hot Chili Peppers across Europe. After departing from Island Records in early 2016, Deap Vally released their second album, “Femejism,” on September 16, 2016, produced by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. In summer 2017, they supported Garbage and Blondie on the Rage and Rapture tour. A notable collaborative album, “Deap Lips,” with The Flaming Lips was announced at the end of 2019. The duo released several EPs, “Digital Dream” and “American Cockroach,” in 2021, and their third album, “Marriage,” in November 2021. In September 2023, Deap Vally announced their disbandment, concluding with a farewell tour in the first half of 2024 and the release of a re-recorded debut album, “Sistrionix 2.0,” in February 2024 on their own label, Deap Vally Records. Their final performance took place in Bristol, England, on June 9, 2024.
