deca joins, an indie rock band from Taipei, Taiwan, formed in 2013. The band’s initial inception was under the name FUBAR, founded by Zheng Jingru and fellow students at the Taipei National University of the Arts. In April 2014, FUBAR released their first album, “Lu Qiang.” A temporary hiatus occurred later that year when lead singer Zheng Jingru began Taiwan’s mandatory military service. Upon his discharge in January 2016, the band reunited under the new name Gray Dwarf Star (灰矮星). In October 2016, this iteration of the band released the single “Fashan Chen” (乏善可陳).
In January 2017, the band adopted their current name, deca joins, a combination derived from the English words “decadent” and “decaffeination.” This period marked a significant turning point with the April 2017 release of the album “Bathroom” (浴室), which garnered substantial critical acclaim both within Taiwan and internationally. To support “Bathroom,” deca joins embarked on tours across Taiwan and Mainland China. Their momentum continued with the November 2018 release of the album “Go Slow,” followed by another promotional tour. The single “Wave” (海浪) from this album notably achieved over 1.5 million views on YouTube, and its music video was nominated for the Golden Melody Award for Best Music Video in 2019.
The band released the single “When Fog Dissipates” (霧散去的時候) in October 2019 and began an “In Between Mountains” tour planned for Asia, Australia, and the United States. However, this tour was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2020, deca joins released the album “Bird and Reflections” (鳥鳥鳥), which led to a Golden Melody Award nomination for best band. The band started a new tour, “Reverie’s Edge,” in 2023, and released their single “偏見” in July 2025. Their current lineup includes Zheng Jingru (vocals, guitar), Yang Shanghua (guitar), Xie Junyan (bass), and Chen Huanggu (drums).
