About

Born on June 17, 1983, in Chatham, Kent, Lee Ryan embarked on his performing arts education at the Independent Performing Arts School: Belcanto London Academy and later at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. His career significantly began in 2000 as a member of the boy band Blue, alongside Simon Webbe, Duncan James, and Antony Costa. During their initial run from 2000 to 2004, Blue achieved global success, selling over 15 million records worldwide and collaborating with prominent artists like Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Ryan’s contributions included co-directing the music video for and writing Blue’s single “Breathe Easy.” The group disbanded in 2004, later reforming in 2011.

Following Blue’s initial split, Ryan launched a solo music career. His debut single, “Army of Lovers,” released in July 2005, reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 1 in Italy. His debut album, “Lee Ryan,” released in August 2005, peaked at No. 6 in the UK and No. 3 in Italy. Subsequent singles from this album included “Turn Your Car Around” and “When I Think of You.” In 2006, his song “Real Love” was featured in the film “Ice Age: The Meltdown,” where he also lent his voice to an elk in the UK version and Eddie in the Italian version. He continued to participate in various television appearances, including “Hell’s Kitchen” in 2007 and “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2014.

Ryan expanded his career into acting, notably joining the cast of the BBC soap opera “EastEnders” in 2017 as Harry “Woody” Woodward, a role he held until 2018. His acting credits also include film voice roles in the “Ice Age” franchise. In 2019, he participated in the British reality TV show “Celebs Go Dating” and toured with the musical “Rip it Up the 70s.” Blue’s 20th-anniversary celebration in 2021 marked a return to music, with a new album, “Heart & Soul,” released in 2022, and an arena tour. Ryan has been open about his personal life, including his bisexuality and diagnoses of dyslexia, ADHD, and Asperger syndrome.
